Why should I inspect the fire extinguishers in my building?

Only a functional fire extinguisher is of any use.

A legal obligation and the advice of the manufacturer.

Fire safety must be taken seriously – the lives and health of people are at stake.

To protect your possessions.

For more confidence and less worry – my fire safety installations are functional.

No one wants their fire extinguisher to fail in case of an emergency.

As the owner or holder of a building, you never know when you might need a fire extinguisher. One thing is certain – the fire extinguisher must always be functional. For that, it is necessary to regularly inspect the fire extinguishers.

  • Once a year if the extinguisher is located in a place where it is affected by moisture, vibration, or temperature fluctuations.
  • Once in two years if the extinguisher is in a dry place with stable temperature.

You as the owner must check your fire extinguishers once a quarter and call a qualified technician who has received professional training every few years to check the internal pressure of the extinguishers.

Forus has competent specialists who will ensure that you can be confident about your security.

Frequently asked questions

How often should an extinguisher be inspected?

Fire extinguishers are checked pursuant to the advice of the manufacturer or immediately if a failure is suspected.

If the manufacturer has not specified how often the extinguisher should be inspected, the extinguisher is checked once a year (if it is kept in a place where it is affected by moisture, vibration, or temperature fluctuations) or once in two years if it is kept in a dry place with stable temperature.

I have to inspect the extinguisher myself once a quarter. What does it entail?

As the owner, you are required to check the condition of your extinguishers yourself once a quarter. In the course of the inspection, make sure that:

  • The extinguisher is in the designated place.
  • It is not concealed and the user instructions are legible.
  • There is no visible damage.
  • The pointer of the pressure indicator (if installed) is in the green zone and the seals and shut-offs (hereinafter seals) are not damaged.

If the observation gives rise to a suspicion that the fire extinguisher is broken, you as the owner must order the inspection and maintenance of the fire extinguisher by a competent technician.

What if my fire extinguisher fails the inspection?

If the inspection reveals that the fire extinguisher does not serve its purpose, we will let you know and you must buy a new extinguisher.

If everything is fine with your extinguisher, our technician will place a respective inspection sticker on it with the date of the next inspection.
