What is the difference between standard and analytical video surveillance?
Standard video surveillance records and displays footage; analytical video surveillance detects and alerts. An analytical system monitors the video image automatically and sends an alarm when an event matches predefined rules, for example if a person enters the territory at night. This helps detect potential threats faster and makes it easier to find the relevant event in the recordings.
What data protection principles should be considered when using analytical video surveillance?
Analytical video surveillance must have a clear purpose, and cameras may only monitor the areas necessary for that purpose. People must be properly informed about the use of video surveillance, the retention period for recordings must be defined, and access must be restricted to authorized persons.
Forus standard solutions do not include facial recognition or other biometric identification. Safety-related analytics, such as checking the use of protective equipment, can be used for occupational safety purposes, but not for the individual monitoring of employees.
